Environmental Ministry to allocate NIS 75m. to promote waste recycling

The Environmental Protection Ministry announced on Monday that it will allocate NIS 75 million in the year 2009 for environmental infrastructure to handle solid waste.
The funding will be distributed among local municipalities, urban conurbations, businesses and private entrepreneurs in order to promote means to dealing with waste other than burial.
Environmental Minister Gilad Erdan said that a joint utilization of the money by the private sector and the local authorities will promote a revolution in the way waste is managed, bring upon a substantial hike in recycling and reducing rates, and place Israel up to speed with developed countries.
Encouraging Israelis to recycle is one of the ministry's top priorities, as it blends environmental awareness with the public's daily routine, Erdan added.
