Lake Kinneret has stabilized at 212.66 meters below sea level for the last month, the Water Authority said Monday. That likely represents the highest point the lake’s level will rise to this winter, according to the authority. The problem is that that’s just 0.34 meters above the lowest red line.An additional 3.86 meters would be needed to fill up the lake. What that means is that as the Kinneret plunges during the summermonths, it could creep very close to the black line – the point atwhich irreparable damage would be done to the natural reservoir. Therefore, despite the winter rains, the Water Authority cautioned thatvigilance and conservation were still extremely important continuinginto the summer. With some ups and downs, the lake’s water level hasdropped by five meters since 2004, according to Water Authority data.
