A new Internet radio show based in the US is debuting with an effort to forge connections between American, Israeli and Palestinian teens.
Generation Connect, based in Portland, Oregon, launches online on April 13. Its first show will introduce a group of Jewish and Palestinian teenagers aged 13-15, who have been working in partnership for three years.
The youngsters - from Bethlehem, Jaffa and Tel Aviv - come from a variety of backgrounds and will participate in live conversation with their US counterparts.
To prepare for the show, its creator, Trudi Morrison, called for questions about Israel and the Palestinian territories from American teens and sent them to be translated by Windows - a Hebrew-Arabic magazine produced by and distributed to Jewish and Arab teenagers living in Tel Aviv-Jaffa.
Windows then helped local teens reciprocate with questions of their own, which will be the basis for the first show.
After its debut episode, Generation Connect will air monthly. It will be by four to six American students who will discuss their lives, families, concerns and topics relevant to their global peer group. Another show featuring Israeli and Palestinian youth may air in the fall.
"It's young adults connecting with young adults, not adults interviewing kids, giving youth an opportunity to express themselves and interact on a global and local level," Morrison said.
"Only through education is there hope that the next generations will learn to live side by side, respect and appreciate their differences and similarities and find peace and harmony worldwide."
Generation Connect will air at 7 p.m. local time on April 13 and will be available for podcast and downloading at www.smallplateradio.com.
