The cabinet approved Bina Bar-On on Sunday as director-general of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space.
The lawyer is set to replace Menahem Greenblum, who filled the position for three-and-a-half years. Minister Yaakov Peri nominated Bar-On.
Aged 62, married and the mother of three, the new director-general graduated from the Hebrew University’s law school and recently completed her nine-year tenure as director-general of the Industrial Cooperation Authority in the Economy and Trade Ministry.
There she was responsible for developing new markets for Israeli industry and promoting exports – including in the space industry – that totaled hundreds of millions of shekels last year.
Previously, Bar-On worked as deputy director-general of the Environmental Protection Ministry.
Greenblum, the ministry said, was responsible during his term for quadrupling the ministry’s budget to promote national scientific projects and expand international scientific cooperation.
