Italian officials said that 10 would-be immigrants were found dead after the dingy carrying them to Europe capsized in waters between Italy and Libya.
Port authority official Michele D'Andrea in the Sicilian capital of Palermo said that the shipwreck occurred Thursday near Lampedusa, a tiny Italian island that is closer to North Africa than mainland Europe.
He said Friday that an Italian fishing boat and the coast guard pulled 27 survivors from the sea and recovered the bodies Friday.
