4 appear in UK court over Muhammad cartoon protest

Four men appeared in court in London on Friday over their actions during a protest march in February against the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. Mizanur Rahman, 22, and Umran Javed, 26, appeared at London's Old Bailey court on charges of soliciting murder and stirring up hatred during the February 3 demonstration outside the Danish Embassy in London. Rahman, a Web designer, had his bail renewed and Javed was granted bail. Both have to surrender their passports, observe a curfew and refrain from addressing public meetings. The Home Office said another man, Omar Zaheer, 26, was to appear before Bow Street magistrates in London later Friday, charged with racially aggravated disorderly behavior during the same demonstration. Zaheer, who is free on bail, will appear with Abdul Rahman Saleem, 31, who is charged with using words likely to stir up racial hatred. He is also free on bail. Two other men aged 39 and 23 and identified only as B and D, will appear in court on April 19 on charges connected with the protest. They were not identified, and no further details were given.
