Afghanistan to take part in US strategic review

President Barack Obama has accepted his proposal for Afghanistan to take part in a strategic US review of the Afghan war, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on Sunday. An Afghan delegation, headed by the country's foreign minister, will visit the United States as part of the review, Karzai said. The US is studying the situation in Afghanistan at a time of worsening violence, and is contemplating sending up to 30,000 more troops to the country to bolster the 33,000 already in Afghanistan. Obama's special envoy to Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke, said at a joint news conference with Karzai on Sunday that Obama welcomed the Afghanistan president's suggestion that his country join the review.
