Albanian lawmaker shot dead

A police official says an Albanian lawmaker from the main opposition Socialist Party has been shot and killed. The official says Fatmir Xhindi,49, was shot near his house in the town of Roskovec, 100 kilometers southwest of the capital, Tirana. The official spoke on condition of anonymity Saturday, in line with police department policy. Xhindi was shot with a Kalashnikov automatic rifle late Saturday and then left in a car, the police official said, adding that the investigation was ongoing.
