Annan calls on Hamas to concede to Quartet demands

UN Sec.-Gen. Kofi Annan urged Hamas on Tuesday to respect the Quartet's demands of laying down their arms, recognizing Israel, and honoring previous agreements made between the Palestinian Authority and Israel.
Speaking at a press conference after a meeting with US President George Bush, Annan said the Hamas victory represented an opportunity for the movement to be accepted as a legitimate political party.
