Arsonists attack German mosque; none hurt

Arsonists have attacked an empty mosque in central Germany, but no one was hurt and material damage was limited. Police said Monday a gasoline canister and a cloth drenched in gasoline were found in the courtyard of the mosque in Stadtallendorf. They said a window was broken when shots were fired at the building and that two beer bottles filled with a flammable substance were thrown at it. They failed to explode. Police spokesman Martin Ahlich said a witness alerted the head of Stadtallendorf's Turkish Muslim community to the attack and he put out the fire. Authorities have launched an investigation but so far have no indication who carried out the attack or why.
