Head coach Xabi Alonso has left Real Madrid by mutual agreement, the LaLiga club said on Monday.

"Xabi Alonso will always have the love and admiration of all Real Madrid fans because he is a Real Madrid legend and has represented the values of our club at all times. Real Madrid will always be his home," the club said in a statement.

Alonso joined Real Madrid in 2009, following time at Liverpool. He played 143 league matches for the Spanish giant, scoring 4 goals.

He joined the club as head coach last summer, taking over from Carlo Ancelotti, who ended his tenure at Madrid in order to coach the Brazilian national team.

He previously managed Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, leading them to an undefeated title victory in 2024.

This is a developing story.
