A Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft belonging to Amazon went off the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, video footage seen by The Jerusalem Post showed, killing at least five people.
Amazon confirmed that the plane had "experienced an incident" while attempting to land at Miami International Airport, and that it was working with local authorities in order to determine the exact nature of the accident.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told CBS that the plane had hit several vehicles, and that multiple people had been injured.
Later, officials stated that at least five people had been killed in the incident, and that another five had been injured, with three in critical condition.
At least two people were trapped in vehicles that were struck by the plane, and the pilot and co-pilot were trapped inside the plane by the crash, Miami-Dade Fire Chief Ray Jadallah said.
More than 60 rescue units and about 200 personnel responded to the incident, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said in a statement. As of late afternoon, emergency personnel were still dealing with an active fuel leak from the aircraft, Jadallah said.
Ground stop enacted at Miami International Airport
A ground stop is in effect at the airport, United States Transportation Department Secretary Sean Duffy announced in a post on X/Twitter.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava stated that local firefighters were on the scene, along with airport teams.
The aircraft had departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Federal Aviation Administration noted.
