Day One: Obama calls Palestinian Authority president

An aide to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Wednesday that President Barack Obama called to express his commitment to achieving peace.
Wednesday's call fulfills a promise by Obama to get involved in Mideast peacemaking from "day one" of his presidency.
Presidential aide Saed Erekat said that Obama called Abbas to say that he hoped to work toward peace "in full partnership" with the Palestinian leader.
