Editor of Gay Times Magazine sacked for antisemitic, racist tweets

The tweets have since been deleted.

The newly appointed editor of Gay Times Magazine has been fired over a number of racist and sexist tweets he wrote between 2010 and 2015.
The tweets were revealed by BuzzFeed UK this week and have since been deleted.
One antisemitic tweet from January 2011 reads: "I wonder if they cast that guy as 'The Jew' because of that f**king ridiculously large honger of a nose. It must be prosthetic. Must be."
Another: "'Jews are gross. It's the only religion with 'ew' in it." Just some Family Guy genius before the festivities begin'"
Other tweets attacked transgender individuals, women and Egyptians among others.
BuzzFeed found the tweets prior to an interview with Rivers. They confronted him about the tweets, to which he reportedly responded with shock.
Rivers was the first mixed-race editor appointed by the magazine published in the United Kingdom, a move which many readers saw as a step forward in promoting diversity and inclusivity.
But after less than one month on the job, Gay Times suspended Rivers and announced Thursday that he had been fired.
The magazine released a statement reading: "We announce that his employment has been terminated with immediate effect."
The statement went on to "apologize for the offense that has been caused."

"Gay Times does not tolerate such views and will continue to strive to honor and promote inclusivity."
Rivers also released an apology statement on Wednesday.

"To every single person who is hurt, offended and disappointed: I'm sorry," he begins. "These tweets from my past show a deep self-loathing that I've worked hard to overcome."
Rivers concludes: "I hope we can use this as an opportunity for growth, for healing, for moving forward. As evidenced by my own example, there is so much work to do."
