Fidel Castro meets with visiting Chilean president

Fidel Castro met for 90 minutes Thursday with Chile's president, who said the ailing former Cuban leader appeared "in very good shape." Chilean President Michelle Bachelet described the 82-year-old revolutionary as "active" and "very well" in a brief exchange with reporters as she headed to an event at the University of Havana. She described the meeting as "very nice, important." The two met behind closed doors to discuss the economy and farming in Chile. Fidel Castro issued a statement Thursday describing his meeting with Bachelet as "friendly" and predicted that the socialist ideals embraced by the late Chilean President Salvador Allende would "triumph permanently" in the South American country.
