France attending UN racism conference

The French foreign minister says France will take part in a UN racism conference boycotted by several Western nations. But Bernard Kouchner says the French representative will walk out "immediately" if the conference turns into a platform for racist comments against Israel. France left the decision to the last minute. The conference opens in Geneva on Monday. Kouchner said on France-Info radio Monday morning that the decision was made after late-night discussions. He said the French ambassador to UN agencies in Geneva would represent France. The United States and at least seven other countries are boycotting the UN's second world racism conference, concerned it could single out Israel for condemnation.
