Gunmen abduct 3 Filipino teachers, head to Abu Sayyaf stronghold

Gunmen intercepted a boat with three public school teachers Friday and sped off with their abductees toward a nearby southern stronghold of al-Qaida-linked terrorists, officials said. Regional police chief Angelo Sunglao said the teachers were traveling near Zamboanga city's Pangapuyan island Friday when the four gunmen in another boat snatched them. They took them toward Basilan island, where Abu Sayyaf terrorists are active. Suspected guerrillas are separately holding three international Red Cross workers they abducted a week ago on Jolo island. Sunglao said security forces aided by helicopter were trying to find them.
