IAEA to report on Iran's enrichment program

UN inspectors will know by next week how far Iran has advanced on the path to nuclear enrichment, diplomats said Saturday - findings that could shape Security Council action against Tehran and hurt US claims that Iran has accelerated its efforts. The International Atomic Energy Agency - the UN nuclear watchdog - is clearly rankled by US assertions that a briefing last week by the agency was a bombshell that indicated great progress by Iran. A senior IAEA official said that was "pure speculation and misinformation." Officials of the nuclear watchdog normally refuse to be identified as such when discussing sensitive topics like disputes with leading IAEA board members. It was a reflection of his exasperation that the official dropped such reservations. "It comes from people who are seeking a crisis, not a solution" to the crisis over Iran, the official added.
