News reports citing Milan authorities say police have issued arrest warrants for five North Africans accused of plotting attacks on a church and a subway line in Italy, as well as in France, Spain and Denmark.
ANSA and Apcom news agencies said Thursday that four of the suspects are already in jail, while one was picked up in Caltanissetta, Sicily.
The reports said the group is believed to have plotted attacks on a church in Bologna, northern Italy, and on the Milan subway in 2006. Apcom said the group also allegedly targeted France, Spain and Denmark, without giving details.
Apcom said the group was also active in Algeria, Syria and Morocco and was recruiting and training aspiring terrorists to send to Iraq and Afghanistan.
