The crème de la crème of Los Angeles society flocked to the Friends of Sheba Medical Center-Tel Hashomer’s 70th anniversary gala at the posh Beverly Wilshire Hotel, where Tony Award-winning celebrity emcee Jason Alexander and Sheba’s director-general, Yitshak Kreiss, inspired the large gathering with a series of stories and videos about Sheba’s rich history, as it has grown alongside the State of Israel to become an epicenter for cutting-edge medicine and the largest, most comprehensive hospital in the Middle East.
The Sunday event’s speakers also featured Dr. Itai Pessach, deputy director of the Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital at Sheba Medical Center, who has played an instrumental role in saving children from all over the Middle East, as well as former IDF soldier Ohad Ben-Yishai, who was critically wounded in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge in 2014 and returned to a normal lifestyle after a long stint at Sheba’s world-renowned Rehabilitation Hospital.
Also in attendance was Prof. Mordechai Shani, who served for 30 years as the hospital’s director-general, as well as two terms as director-general of the Health Ministry. Benjamin Boston and Gal Ben-Naim chaired the gala event
