Libya to host Darfur conference that includes US
Libya said Sunday it will host representatives from the US and several European and African countries in late April to discuss the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region.
Ali al-Teraiki, the African Union representative in Libya's foreign ministry, said the conference will be held in Tripoli on April 28th and will include officials from the US, the EU, the AU, Sudan, Chad and Eritrea.
"The conference's agenda will focus on how to achieve reconciliation between the conflicted parties inside the Darfur region, as well as between the rebels and the government," al-Teraiki said.
News of the conference came two days before US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte's scheduled trip to Libya Tuesday as part of his current African tour. The visit will make him the highest ranking US diplomat to travel to Tripoli in more than half a century.
