N. Korean media makes 1st reference to nuke tests

North Korea's official media on Friday referred to a nuclear test for the first time since recent concerns that it may be planning such a move, citing a leftist South Korean group condemning the US for allegedly conducting an underground nuclear test. The US conducted an underground experiment at a testing site in Nevada on August 30. However, it was a so-called subcritical test that involves the detonation of explosives around radioactive material, and doesn't create the critical mass necessary for a self-sustaining nuclear reaction. The North's Korean Central News Agency noted that a South Korean group, the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, made a statement accusing the US of a test that was an "obvious criminal act of disturbing the global peace."
