New Zealand: Dead Israeli backpacker identified as Ohad Dotan
By JPOST.COM STAFFOhad Dotan, 26, was identified on Wednesday by New Zealand authorities as the missing Israeli backpacker after his body was extracted from Mount Cook by an aerial rescue team, Chabad News reported.
A Chabad official said Dotan's body is scheduled to be flown to Israel for burial on Thursday.
Richard McNamara of the New Zealand Department of Conservation told reporters that crews found Dotan's car next to a trailhead near Mueller Glacier on Tuesday. An aerial search of the area located his body resting on an outcropping of rock. Dotan is believed to have fallen from a cliff after wandering off of a trail.
According to the official, some 4,000 to 4,500 people travel the trail each year. An American died last year after straying from the same trail.RECOMMENDED STORIESIsrael Navy attacks Houthis for first time in Hodeidah Port strikeJUNE 10, 2025Russia to construct eight nuclear power plants in IranJUNE 9, 2025Greta Thunberg among voluntarily deported activists, eight remain in detentionJUNE 10, 2025Jewish woman reveals plot to poison Israelis at Boom Festival in PortugalJUNE 9, 2025
