Plans are being drawn up for 80-90 New Zealanders trapped in war torn Lebanon to be evacuated to the nearby Mediterranean island of Cyprus, officials said Wednesday.
Between 80 and 90 people living in Lebanon have asked New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for help to escape the violence, spokeswoman Helen Tunnah said.
Earlier, New Zealand said about 50 nationals were in the war torn Mideast nation.
The ministry does not yet know when evacuations will start, but consular assistance was being provided in Cyprus in preparation for the evacuees, she said.
