A bus carrying workers home from a silver mine crashed into a ravine in Peru's central Andes, killing 28 and injuring 17, officials said Wednesday.
The accident happened Tuesday evening as the bus was traveling from the Uchucchacua silver mine to the town of Oyon, 150 kilometers (90 miles) northeast of the capital of Lima, police said.
The cause of the accident was under investigation.
Carlos Galvez, chief of administration at the Lima headquarters of mine owner Compania de Minas Buenaventura SAA, said the bus was contracted to provide regular transport for the miners.
