Israel has no more options regarding the extradition of former district court judge Dan Cohen after the president of Peru refused to sign a court order to send him back, the former head of the Justice Ministry’s international department, Irit Kahn, told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday.The Justice Ministry announced on Tuesday that “the international department has been informed that the political echelon in Peru has decided not to accept Israel’s request to extradite Dan Cohen.”Kahn told the Post that there was no extradition agreement between the two countries.Nevertheless, the Peruvian prosecution and Supreme Court accepted Israel’s request to send him home.Israel has indicted Cohen on charges of acceptance of a bribe by a public servant for an act connected with his functions, committing fraud and breach of faith, obtaining something by deceit in aggravated circumstances, assistance in obtaining something by deceit, false entry into the documents of a corporate body, causing misleading information to be included in financial reports and obstruction of justice.
