Peru: Two arrested in murder of Israeli

One of the suspects attacks police officers; Tamar Shahak, 22, apparently strangled to death in robbery.

Peruvian police overnight Tuesday arrested two men on suspicion of murdering of 22-year-old Israeli tourist Tamar Shahak, who was apparently strangled to death in a robbery on Sunday night. According to a local newspaper, the two are suspected of involvement in a number of robberies and attacks against tourists in the last few years. Peruvian journalist Carlos Tanveria told Army Radio that during Tuesday night's arrest, one of the suspects and his friends attacked the police officers. Shahak's body is set to arrive in Israel on Thursday morning. The 22-year-old tourist, who was found murdered in Arequipa, in southern Peru, was an announcer for Army Radio and a correspondent for Walla. She was in the middle of a lengthy trip through South America.
