An official says Poland is likely to increase its number of troops in Afghanistan.
Poland currently has 1,600 troops in the central Afghan province of Ghazni as part of the NATO mission in the country.
Government spokesman Pawel Gras did not say Wednesday how many additional troops would be sent or when a final decision would be made.
In response to deteriorating security in Afghanistan, US President Barack Obama has ordered thousands of new troops to the country and his administration has urged other NATO allies to do more.
Defense Ministry spokesman Robert Rochowicz declined to comment on a report published Wednesday in the Gazeta Wyborcza daily that Poland will send an additional 400 soldiers to Afghanistan, raising its total to 2,000.
