Police say 40 dead in Vietnamese ferry accident

Police say a small ferry has sunk in central Vietnam, killing at least 40 people. Provincial police chief Phan Thanh Ha said 40 bodies, including those of 27 women and seven girls, have been recovered from the Gianh river in Quang Binh province. He said rescuers were still searching for six others reported missing in Sunday's accident. He said an initial investigation showed that the boat was overloaded with 80 people even though it had a capacity of only 12. Quang Binh is about 500 kilometers south of Hanoi.
