Police search Emirates plane at London's Gatwick airport

Police were searching a plane Sunday that landed at London's Gatwick Airport following a report that there might be a suspicious device on board. Dubai-based Emirates said in an e-mailed statement that a passenger on the plane found a note shortly before landing indicating there might be a security threat. Police said the plane had been cleared of passengers and was being searched in a holding area at the airport, which was temporarily closed but then reopened a short time later. On Friday evening, an Emirates plane carrying more than 225 people slammed its tail into the runway as it took off from Melbourne, Australia, sending smoke into the cabin and forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing. No one was hurt in that incident.
