Report: 63-year-old gives birth to baby boy

A 63-year-old woman has given birth to a baby boy by Caesarean section, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported. Patricia Rashbrook, a child psychiatrist from Lewes, south of London, said the 6 pound, 10 ounce (3-kilogram) child was "beautiful," the broadcaster reported Friday. She has two grown children from a previous marriage, but recently remarried and underwent fertility treatment. In a statement released in May, Rashbrook and her husband, John Farrant, said the pregnancy "has not been an endeavor undertaken lightly or without courage." "A great deal of thought has been given to planning and providing for the child's present and future well-being, medically, socially and materially," the couple said. The couple did not say what treatment Rashbrook received. The oldest woman in the world to give birth is thought to be Romanian Adriana Iliescu, who had a daughter in Bucharest in January 2005 at age 66
