US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke with Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday night regarding his intention to declare a state of emergency in his country.
No details of the conversation were released.
The Pakistani government said earlier that it might impose a state of emergency because of "external and internal threats" and deteriorating law and order in the volatile northwest near the Afghan border.
