A Romanian officer was killed Friday in crossfire during fighting with insurgents in Afghanistan.
A Romanian Defense Ministry statement said Capt. Petre Tiberius was leading a rapid intervention mission to assist allies who had come under attack when he was struck by a bullet.
The statement said he was transported by helicopter to a hospital but died en route.
The incident occurred about 50 miles south of Kabul.
Tiberius is the 10th Romanian soldier to die in Afghanistan. Romania has 956 troops in the country.
