Russia: 6 killed in Caucasus violence

At least three police officers and three suspected militants have been killed in shootings in the provinces of Chechnya and Dagestan, officials said Tuesday. Police in Chechnya said Tuesday that one Interior Ministry officer was killed and two others wounded in a gunbattle with militants overnight. In neighboring Dagestan gunmen shot and killed two policemen when they parked in a garage area in the provincial capital after work late Monday, local police said. Separately, authorities said police in the Dagestani town of Khasavyurt fatally shot three men who had opened fire when their car was stopped for an identity check.
