'Russian student sentenced for making joke to kill Medvedev'

A Russian news agency says a Siberian court has convicted a college student for making a joke threat to kill President-elect Dmitry Medvedev and has sentenced him to 16 months in prison. Prosecutors say Anton Epikhin had posed as a terrorist group member threatening to murder Medvedev and attack polling stations during last month's election. ITAR-Tass quotes Epikhin as saying the message he sent to a Barnaul news agency was "simply a prank gone wrong." The agency says Epikhin was convicted Monday under new legislation aimed at punishing fraudulent terrorist warnings.
