Russian warship to cross Panama Canal for first time since WWII

The Russian Navy spokesman Capt. Igor Dygalo on Wednesday said a Russian warship will sail across the Panama Canal after joint maneuvers with the Venezuelan navy. Dygalo said it would be the first time since World War II that a Soviet or Russian military vessel crossed the canal. The squadron's voyage to Venezuela was Russia's first such deployment to the Western Hemisphere since the Cold War era. It was intended to showcase the Kremlin's power abroad.
