Spanish court convicts four, frees 10 in terror trial
By JERUSALEM POST STAFF
A Spanish court has convicted four men of terrorism offenses in connection with recruiting suicide attackers for Iraq, but has acquitted 10 others for lack of evidence.
A National Court ruling Tuesday says Algerian Kamal Ahbar and Moroccan Samir Tahtah were each sentenced to nine years in prison for membership of a terrorist organization.
Another Moroccan, Mohamed el Idrissi, was sentenced to five years for collaborating with a terrorist group while Spaniard Tarek Hamed Hamu was given two years for falsifying documents.
Prosecutors argued that all 14 belonged to a cell that tried to recruit jihad fighters for the Iraq war. They were also accused of helping several suspects in the March 11, 2004, Madrid bombings to flee.
