Sudan said Thursday it had completed interrogations of 44 people arrested last month on allegations they were planning a coup, the semiofficial Sudan Media Center reported.
The group arrested in July included Mubarak al-Fadil, a former adviser to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who left the government in 2004 and rejoined the opposition Umma party. The SMC did not specify Thursday if al-Fadil was among those interrogated.
The report said 11 of the people who were interrogated were released, and the remainder would face criminal charges for what it described as "a sabotage act in July aimed at undermining security and creating chaos in the capital, Khartoum."
