Turkish police detained a woman after she posted a photo of herself standing on pages of the Koran, Hurriyet daily news reported on Wednesday. The woman posted a photo of her feet, clad in red heels, stepping on pages of the holy book to her Twitter account under the Twitter handle @kedibiti. Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek filed a complaint against the woman, who was identified by police as an Istanbul resident with the initials G.Y. She reportedly told police she was an atheist during a brief interrogation. Police released the woman after questioning but a lawsuit has been filed against her for “triggering hatred in society” and “slandering,” the report said.
