US-bound flight makes emergency landing at B-G

Continental Airlines flight forced to land after pilot reports smoke coming from baggage compartment; 280 passengers on board.

A US-bound Continental Airlines flight made a successful emergency landing at Ben-Gurion International Airport on Wednesday, after the pilot reported smoke coming from the baggage compartment.
The flight, with 280 passengers on board, landed safely shortly after taking off from Ben-Gurion en route to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

Magen David Adom dispatched 45 ambulances and 17 mobile units to meet the plane on the runway after airport officials sent out an alert at 12:20 p.m.
Police and firefighting crews also arrived on the tarmac to assess theBoeing 777 passenger jet's situation upon its landing.
