Afghan and US-led coalition forces were attacked by insurgents during a combat patrol in southern Afghanistan and called in airstrikes, killing more than 65 suspected militants, the coalition said. More than 80 Taliban fighters armed with machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars fired on the Afghan-led patrol from multiple bunkers near Kakrak village in Uruzgan province during the six-hour battle Tuesday night, the coalition said in a statement. The ground force commander requested coalition artillery and air support, which bombarded "positively identified Taliban positions, killing more than 65 insurgents," it said. No Afghan or coalitions forces were hurt.
