US takes steps to deport accused Nazi to Germany

The US government said Tuesday that it has contacted the German government to get travel documents needed to complete the deportation of accused Nazi guard John Demjanjuk. The 88-year-old native of Ukraine is charged in Germany with 29,000 counts of acting as an accessory to murder while working as a guard at a Nazi death camp in occupied Poland during World War II. His son, John Demjanjuk Jr., said Tuesday that his father remains at his suburban Cleveland home and is not in federal custody. The German warrant seeks the deportation or extradition of Demjanjuk, who denies involvement in any deaths.
