Islam is a religion of peace that doesn’t tolerate murder, one of the most famous Muslims in US popular culture, retired basketball star Kareem Abdul Jabbar, said over the weekend.Abdul Jabbar appeared on the NBC network’s political weekly talk show Meet the Press on Sunday. The Hall of Fame center said that Muslims are a largely moderate community that abhors the kinds of acts that have grabbed headlines in recent weeks, namely the slaughter of French journalists at a satirical newspaper as well as the patrons of a Paris kosher supermarket."Islam is a religion of peace, Islam does not tolerate wanton murder,” Abdul Jabbar told NBC.He said that those who perpetrated the Charlie Hebdo attacks “do not represent the teachings of Islam,” and that these violent actions make it “impossible for real Muslims to be understood.”
