Iranian appeals court to hear US reporter's case

An Iranian appeals court was set to review the case of a jailed American journalist on Sunday. Roxana Saberi, a dual Iranian-American national, was convicted last month of espionage and sentenced to eight years in prison after a one-day trial. Iran's official news agency IRNA quoted the spokesman of Iran's judiciary, Ali Reza Jamshidi, as saying the court would hear the case Sunday, but it was unclear when the verdict would be issued. He said three judges would review her appeal. The US government calls the charges against Saberi baseless and demanded she be freed. Saberi, who grew up in North Dakota, moved to Iran six years ago and worked as a freelancer for several news outlets including National Public Radio.
