150,000 see Avi Nesher’s ‘The Other Story’ in first 10 days

The movie deals with a young woman (Joy Rieger) who has become ultra-Orthodox and her estranged father (Yuval Segal), who returns to Jerusalem to try to talk her out of a hastily arranged marriage.

The Other Story, the latest film by Avi Nesher, was seen by 150,000 viewers in Israel in the 10 days since it was released, after a record-breaking 40,000 saw it in its prerelease on Israeli Cinema Day, October 17, the film’s producers announced.
The Other Story, which was screened abroad at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival, and in Israel as the opening film of the Haifa International Film Festival, will be shown at a gala premiere at the 32nd Israel Film Festival in Los Angeles. At that event, Nesher will receive the 2018 IFF Cinematic Achievement Award.
Moshe Edery, CEO and owner of United King Films, one of the producers of the film, said, “The great success of The Other Story is a huge and very heartening accomplishment. Director Avi Nesher has repeatedly demonstrated a rare ability to win rave reviews together with unprecedented box-office success. The unique script of The Other Story, along with its precise direction and spectacular performances from the entire cast, create an exciting and surprising cinematic experience that we are very proud of.” The film is dedicated to the memory of Edery’s late brother, Leon, who was his business and producing partner.

The movie’s original theme song, by Nathan Goshen, has been a runaway hit. Goshen plays the daughter’s fiancé, and the theme is one of eight songs he wrote for the film.
The movie was produced by Moshe and Leon Edery, David Milch, David Silber and Nesher, with support from Keshet, YES Israeli Cinema, the Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts, the Israel Film Council, the Gesher Multicultural Film Fund, the Culture and Sport Ministry, the Mifal Hapayis national lottery, the Avi Chai Foundation and the Jerusalem Film & Television Fund.
