The remains of an American hiker were found on Sunday near Mount Solomon, about 10 km. (six miles) north of Eilat, Ynet reported.
The young man’s body was discovered in a canyon hundreds of meters deep. Members of a police rescue unit were able to reach the youth and establish that he showed no sign of life. It is believed that he died after falling into the canyon.
The IDF Search and Rescue team 669 was called to airlift his remains by helicopter.
Eilat police opened an investigation into circumstances of the death. No criminal motives were suspected as of Sunday.
The US Embassy in Israel was notified of the death, and the diplomatic staff contacted the man’s family in the US.
