Idit Ohel, mother of hostage Alon Ohel, appealed to members of the cabinet, urging them to bring her son home following a severe deterioration in his medical condition, in a letter published on Sunday.

Ohel, who is believed to have lost vision in one eye due to injuries sustained during his abduction by Hamas on October 7, is now in danger of completely losing his eyesight if he does not receive proper medical care soon, according to a new assesment given by Prof. Anat Loewenstein, head of the ophthalmology department at Tel Aviv Medical Center.

“It is only a matter of time,” Loewenstein wrote in her letter to Ohel’s family. But, Loewenstein claimed, that immediate, critical treatment may be able to save what remains of his vision.

“Netanyahu knows exactly what Alon’s situation is," Idit Ohel said in an interview with Walla this past weekend, "We expect him to hurry because the hostages do not have time.”

Later in her letter, Idit wrote that now is the time for true victory.

“We defeated Hamas. We brought about a strategic shift in the Middle East. The true victory will come when the hostages return home on their own two feet, with heads held high, full of pride that Israel did everything to save them,” she wrote.

At the end of her message, she wrote that she speaks on behalf of her son Alon, who cries out to her every night from the depths of Hamas’s tunnels: “End this nightmare. Bring my son home — before it’s too late.”
