A second doctor at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital has tested positive for measles after treating an unvaccinated girl with the disease, the Health Ministry announced Saturday night.

Both doctors had been vaccinated, the ministry added.

“This is an unusual incident that is currently being investigated by the hospital and the Health Ministry,” the ministry said.

The two doctors have mild symptoms and will remain in isolation until the infectious period of the disease ends.

The national vaccination rate for measles is around 90 percent.

First incident of measles infecting doctor

The incident in which the first doctor at Ichilov was infected with measles happened on Friday. The Health Ministry stated that it and the hospital are "conducting a comprehensive epidemiological investigation," and urged the public to get vaccinated. They also emphasized that the disease is treatable with the measles vaccine.

Since the measles outbreak began, eight children, all under the age of three, have died of the disease. There were about 1,700 cases diagnosed in Israel as of last month.
