A 46-year-old kitesurfer died, and two others were injured at Tayo Beach in Bat Yam due to extreme winds registered on Friday.

The three surfers allegedly lost control of their kites due to unusually strong winds and were thrown approximately 150 meters into the rocks along the coastline.

According to statements from Magen David Adom (MDA), paramedics found the man unconscious, without a pulse or breathing.

After performing prolonged resuscitation efforts, they pronounced him dead at the scene. The other two surfers sustained moderate injuries.

Police officers from the Bat Yam station stated they are on-site and investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Extreme winds across Israel

The dangerous conditions are attributed to a widespread winter system producing coastal gusts of 60–70 km/h, with winds expected to strengthen throughout Friday evening.

Dr. Amir Givati, head of the Israel Meteorological Service, warned that gusts could reach 100 to 115 km/h along the coast and in lowland areas, and 90 to 100 km/h in the mountains, with conditions expected to ease overnight. Authorities urged the public to avoid flood-prone roads, secure loose objects, and follow emergency instructions.

“Winds will peak from midday into the evening along the coast and lowlands,” Dr. Givati said, adding that calmer conditions are expected only overnight.
