Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) Chief David Zini announced Wednesday that he will appoint "N." as the new Deputy Head of the Shin Bet.

N. began his service with the Shin Bet as a coordinator in the South, and took on many roles over the course of his career, including fieldwork. After his retirement, he continued to serve the public in both the security establishment and the private sector.

Netanyahu approved N's appointment, and he will assume his position next month.

Previous Shin Bet Deputy Head S. to be replaced

N. will replace the current Deputy Head, "S." who has served in the organization for the last 30 years. S. previously served as the agency's acting director after the departure of former chief Ronen Bar, who promoted him to deputy chief in January 2025.

S. was on a first-round short list for potential appointment by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but did not make a second-round short list, which included other former deputy chiefs who had served in that role longer than him, as well as other senior defense officials from outside of the Shin Bet, such as Zini.

In his announcement of N's appointment, Zini thanked S. for his service as Deputy Head during this period of Israel's history.
